Professional Profile

Mr. Hugh Davis is currently a principal owner of Combative Arts Associates and has been instrumental in its operations since becoming part owner of Combative Arts Associates in early 1997.

Mr. Hugh Davis began studying martial arts while living in Japan in 1969.  He was introduced to Kendo, Judo, and Aikido as part of his school’s physical education program.  In 1976 he began to study various European weapons (sword and shield, sword and dagger, and quarterstaff) as well as participating in various types of fighting matches with them.  After moving to Colorado in 1992, Mr. Hugh Davis began to study under Master Materkowski in Tae Kwon Do. In 1993, Mr. Hugh Davis began studying Hapkido under Master Materkowski and Grandmaster John Pelligrini and Kun Tao Silat under Guru Besar Willem de Thouars and his senior students.

Starting in 1978, Mr. Hugh Davis has studied and participated in various forms of shooting disciplines.  He has taken classes ranging from military courses to classes from various commercial schools and under various instructors.  In 1982, while at the University of Washington, he began competitive long range shooting - principally 1000-yard service rifle matches. In 1990 he also began to participate in various combat-style shooting matches, principally IPSC pistol and three gun (rifle, shotgun, and pistol) matches.

Mr. Hugh Davis is currently affiliated with the International Combat Hapkido Federation, the Hanminjok Hapkido Federation, the World Ki Do Federation, the International Police Defensive Tactics Institute, the American Society for Law Enforcement Training, Options for Personal Security, the Independent Tae Kwon Do Association, the World Weapons Federation, Sayoc Kali, Hock Hochheim’s Scientific Fighting Congress, the International Defensive Pistol Association, the United States Practical Shooting Association, and the National Rifle Association.

Combative Arts Associates

Combative Arts Associates is self-defense training firm specializing in the full spectrum of modern styles of training across the force continuum.  As such it is unique in the Rocky Mountain region for being able to provide the civilian, law enforcement, or military communities with a broad range of integrated non-lethal or lethal self-defense training utilizing empty hand control techniques, empty hand fighting skills, impact weapon and defensive knife fighting skills, and defensive handgun, carbine, and shotgun skills.
